What Defines an Entrepreneur?

Whether is in novels, on the news, or on the newsstand, stories abound about entrepreneurs. But what defines an entrepreneur? How can one gain this regal title?

Entrepreneurs are people that possess a new venture, idea, or enterprise, and said people assume a significant accountability when it comes to the outcome and inherent risks associated with the venture, idea, or enterprise. Entrepreneurs choose a level of financial, professional, and/or personal risk in order to pursue opportunities. In addition, these people are generally leaders leading a team of professionals to success in business ventures.

What defines an entrepreneur? Well, profit defines entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are innovators that establish businesses or companies using existing or new products or services for the simple reward of making money. Taking chances is huge for an entrepreneur. Yes, they may take on all the risk of the venture, but should they succeed, they will gain great rewards and prestige.

Some famous entrepreneurial names are Walt Disney, Willem E. Boeing, Steven Jobs, and Steven Spielberg; some famous entrepreneurial firms are Amway, Amazon.com, Ebay, Hewlett Packard, and Hallmark Cards. Anyone can join the ranks of entrepreneurship, but it takes dedication and an eye for detail to truly succeed.

Here are some questions to ask yourself if you want to be an entrepreneur…

Are problems for you a challenge rather than frustration? Entrepreneurs find problems a challenge rather than a frustration.

Do you enjoy working for someone else? Entrepreneurs do not enjoy working for others. In fact, entrepreneurs do not do well unless they are the boss.

Do you have the ability to analyze complex situations and come to logical conclusions? Entrepreneurs must have an analytical mind and be capable of providing logical outcomes to any situation.

How important is job security to you? Entrepreneurs do not have job security… Instead, entrepreneurs create their own security. If this is the life for you, you must be willing to accept defeat while always aiming for the sky.

Are you self-motivated? If you are not a self-motivated, self-starter, you should probably not consider starting any type of business. When it comes to what defines an entrepreneur, you will find everything rings of a self-starter and self-motivated individual.

Do you like working long hours if you will be rewarded for your effort at a later time? Entrepreneurs will often find the reward is far in the future. However, true entrepreneurs work endlessly to reach their goals bypassing what many people consider logical. Entrepreneurs believe in what they are doing and will often live, breath, and eat their venture.

What defines an entrepreneur? The list is endless. But what is certain is that many entrepreneurs are what founded this great country. It is people with visions that make the world a better place for the rest of us. Often, success is not the driving force behind entrepreneurship. Instead, the task is going to bring a high amount of profit in the end. By risking big in the beginning, these brave individuals risk everything for a better tomorrow.
